Adjusting your monitor

These pages are optimized for viewing at a resolution of 1024x768 pixels or higher and 24 bit color. Resolution of 800x600 pixels and 16 bit color still allow quite good result.

In every case, for best viewing the images in this website, is very important you adjust the brightness and contrast of your monitor so that you can see each step separately in the greyscale scale showed below.

After brightness and contrast adjustment you should perform manually the appropriate color adjustments per your monitor. Proper adjustment of your monitor will allow you to see images on the web the way they were intended to be seen.

The simple method above should work fine to correctly view this website (and other photo images websites). But there are plenty good websites where you can find much more information about the correct settings for your monitor. In my opinion, a very good start point is:

http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html#Monitorsetup by Norman Koren,

or:

http://www.users.on.net/~julian.robinson/photography/adjust-monitor.htm by Julian Robinson.
