Sharpless 119 (Sh2-119) Nebula 
Sh2-119, or Sharpless 119, is a large complex of emission nebulosity in Cygnus constellation, about 2 degrees east of the North American Nebula. It is located just around 68 Cygni, a quite bright star of magnitude 5. The nebula was catalogued by astronomer S. Sharpless in his famous "Catalogue of HII Regions", published in 1959. Sharpless described it as a large (have an apparent diameter of about 2 degrees) and "bright" nebula. The nebula is crossed by several dark dust lanes and globules, especially on the southern part.
Full-res file is about 283 Megapixels with a resolution of about 1 arcsec per pixel. It shows an area of sky large 4,8° x 4,5° (for comparison, the full-Moon has a diameter of about 0,5°).

This color image is based on data coming from several photographic plates taken between 1991 and 1992 through the Palomar Observatory's 48-inch (1,2-meter) Samuel Oschin Telescope as a part of the second National Geographic Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS II). The photographs were recorded on two type of glass photographic plates - one sensitive to red light and the other to blue and later they were digitized.
